Martin Unterguggenberger completed his PhD titled Defense-in-Depth Techniques for Memory Safety in Hardware under the supervision of Prof. Stefan Mangard in January 2026. In this dissertation, he explores the design and implementation of techniques for runtime memory safety on off-the-shelf hardware and through custom processor extensions.
Research
His research focuses on system security in the context of hardware support for memory safety, memory integrity, and isolation/virtualization technologies. In addition, his work covers side-channel, microarchitectural, and fault-injection attacks and defenses.Teaching
