I have just started my phd studies, in which i primarily focus on Differential privacy, and before that i graduated from Chalmers in Sweden with a degree in Engineering mathematics.
In my studies i am fueled by a strong technology pessimism, meaning that i oppose the currently widespread (and in my mind ludicrous) idea that technology, and information-based digitalisation in particular, is serving the interest of our society. On the contrary, when we let data about ourselves be generated, stored and sold, we unavoidably sacrifice part of our anonymity and autonomy, in fact, it must be seen as a real threat to the very ideal of free thought and speech. Technology can not fix this. The solution is easy; first we outlaw data collection and storage, then we de-digitalise. Since this solution is unfortunately quite far away
