FWF ASTRA Award for Bettina Könighofer

We are happy to announce, that Bettina Könighofer has been awarded an ASTRA Award by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for her project SEAL – Runtime Verification for Trustworthy AI. The grant provides € 1 million in funding over five years and is the first ASTRA award received by the Institute of Information Security (ISEC).

In the SEAL project, Bettina will develop methods that make autonomous AI systems more trustworthy. By combining machine learning with formal methods, her research aims to ensure that AI systems act safely, comply with ethical and legal rules, and provide understandable explanations for their decisions.

The project builds on her pioneering work on AI shielding and is embedded in the Austrian Cluster of Excellence Bilateral AI.
